Can you introduce yourself?

I am Vincent Stel, I am 16 years old and I live in Nootdorp. I am in the 4th class of the Gymnasium Novum in Voorburg. My hobbies are drawing, listening to music and visiting amusement parks.

How long have you been taking music lessons with us and why did you start taking music lessons?

I have been taking music lessons since September 2019. I started taking music lessons because I have never been musical in my life and I thought it was time to change that. I noticed that I always followed the rhythm of the songs I like to listen to so I decided to play the drums. I had previously taken guitar lessons elsewhere but that didn't work for me.

What do you think of your teacher and what do you think of the atmosphere during the classes?

I am very satisfied with the atmosphere during the lessons. The teacher explains clearly and it is very pleasant. Although it is only 30 minutes, I learn a lot. There is a good balance between erxercises and playing song and there is also a good balance between who plays. Example, play along, play yourself.

What instrument do you play and what do you like about it?

I play drums and that is fantastic for me. It is the instrument where you use your whole body and for someone with ADHD like me, it is a perfect way to use my energy. Drumming is also something you can do anywhere just by drumming with your hands on your legs. It is very accessible and just a lot of fun to do once you try it.

What did you learn during the music lesson and what would you like to learn?

I basically learned all the basic things about playing drums. So for example the posture, holding sticks, etc. I would like to learn to play with a double bass though.

What is your favorite song to play and why?

I don't really have a favorite song but I really like jazz and blues. I liked songs like Tightrope and I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues.

Do you have any ideas or tips for us?

I would like to learn more about improvisation. Creating a beat around a guitar riff, for example.
